Competing against larger schools all season steeled the 1983 Windsor Locks High School 4×400 Relay Team for a run at the State Championship.
After beating the likes of Rockville, Windsor, Farmington and South Windsor to capture the CVC Championship, the Raider team was in top form when they arrived at the States.
With Billy Johns leading off, followed by Tom Sevigny, Rob LaBreche and Kevin Mockalis at anchor, Windsor Locks bested Terryville in the finals by a comfortable margin.
Led by Head Coach Dennis Gragnolati and Assistant Coach John Christopherson the relay team continued the legacy of the great track teams of the Sixties and Seventies at WLHS coached by Pete Sarant.
The movie Hoosiers was not released until three years later, but fictional Hickory High had nothing on the 1983 Four by Four Hundred Relay team from Windsor Locks.
