CHARLES SIDWAY

From 1954 to 1958 the Windsor Locks High School basketball team won the conference championship every year and had two undefeated seasons.

It is no coincidence that those were the years when Charles Sidway attended Windsor Locks High.

His junior year Charles was the second leading scorer behind Hall of Fame member Russ Jubrey on a team that went undefeated in the regular season.

His senior year Charles was the leading scorer and selected to the All-State Team.  The 1957 team made it to the state finals before losing to New Canaan.

Charles continued his athletic career after receiving a scholarship to play basketball and baseball at Hartford College.

After college he played in the Farmington Valley League for many years.

Coached by Hall of Famer Al Shapiro, those WLHS teams from the 1950’s were part of the Golden Age of Windsor Locks basketball and set the stage for the fine players and teams that followed.  In the center of it all was Charles Sidway, a prolific scorer and a selfless teammate.

Charles Sidway passed away on May 20, 2015.
