2001 state champion boys basketball team

The 2000-2001 Windsor Locks Boys Basketball Team gave the school and the community its first and only boys basketball state championship. This highly talented group was known for it’s unselfish play that focused on teamwork and balanced scoring. The team’s enthusiasm, excitement, energy and pure play brought a great deal of joy to all who watched the group compete. The team was led by three All-NCCC performers: Captain Tim LaTorra, Scott Johnson and junior point guard Paul Bucchieri.

The team finished with a 24-3 record which was highlighted by winning both the NCCC league title as well as the tournament championship. The team entered the state tournament as the #3 seed in the Class S division and during the tournament run, defeated arch rival Suffield for a fourth time that season. This narrow victory paved the way for a finals match up with Easy Granby.

Along with this talented core, this extremely deep team received consistent contributions and leadership from several team members including seniors Matt Senofonte, Mike Smith, Ryan Walters and Ricky Piscottano and Juniors Ken Dustin, Ryan DeSorbo, Paul Schwabb, John Kroll, and Matt O’Brien. Joining the group for the state tournament were Bryan Mailman, Andrew Plante, and Scott LaTorra. The team was led by head coach Drew DiPippo and WLAHOL member assistant coach Mike Mascaro.
